Join us in our recce trip to Kuching to explore two of its hidden gems – Mount Santubong and Gunung Gading!

Although a mere 810m in height, the 4.2 km trek to the summit is steep and rugged with a series of ladders and fixed ropes reminiscences of the popular Mount Ophir climb. During the trek you will witness an expansive variety of flora and fauna and a small cascading waterfall. At the summit you will be rewarded with an excellence view of the South China Sea and the Santubong Village below. Santubong is also associated with the famous British Naturalist Alfred Wallace who came up with theory of natural selection independently and around the same as Charles Darwin.  Alfred Wallace spent time at the mountain collecting specimens that lead to his discovery of this earthshaking theory.

At 900m high, Gunung Gading is slightly higher than Santubong but the hike to its summit is much easier – thanks to its longer but more gradual trail. The highlight of this hike is the numerous waterfalls and streams along the trail. The summit was the location of a British army camp during the communist insurgency of the 1960’s. The remnants of the camp – a helicopter pad, water tank and barbed wire fencing – still remain to this day. If you are lucky, you may stumble upon the elusive Rafflesia Flower!

Day 01 

SINGAPORE – KUCHING

Fly direct from Singapore to Kuching.  Free and easy at our own leisure for the rest of the day.

Overnight: Hotel in Kuching

Day 02 

KUCHING – MOUNT SANTUBONG – KUCHING

In the morning transfer from hotel to Mount Santubong trailhead (approx. 45 min drive). The hiking distance to the summit is about 4.2km and consists of 15 checkpoints. After 3-4 hours of uphill climb, we will reach the summit where we can enjoy your lunch amid the beautiful vista. Descend the mountain via the same route which we come up. Thereafter we will be transferred back your hotel in Kuching. Free and easy at our own leisure for the rest of the day.

Day 03 

KUCHING – GUNUNG GADING NATIONAL PARK – KUCHING

In the morning transfer from hotel to Mount Santubong trailhead (approx. 2 hrs drive). Gunung Gading is home to the world’s largest flower, the Rafflesia, which can grow up to one metre in diameter. Although November, December and January can be regarded as the peak flowering season, the flowers generally bloom throughout the year. So if we are lucky, we may be able to see one in bloom. After registering our visit at the park office, we will proceed for the Gunung Gading summit climb. This is an easier trek compared to the ones yesterday. It will take 2-3 hours to reach the summit. Other than the summit climb, there are also other easier hiking trails of shorter durations in the park. After the hike, we will be transferred back to our hotel in Kuching. Free and easy at our own leisure for the rest of the day.

Day 04

KUCHING – SINGAPORE

Free and easy at your own leisure till airport transfer for your flight home.

Package includes:

• Airport transfers
• Return transport between Kuching and Mount Santubong
• Return transport between Kuching and Gunung Gading National Park
• Entrance fee to Gunung Gading National Park
• Three nights’ accommodation at Pullman Kuching (twins-sharing basis)

Notes

1) Single supplement is subjected to availability at SGD 180 extra. For solo participants, we will match you with another participant of the same gender.

2) Your slot is only confirmed after you received an email from us with registration and payment instructions and you have performed the given instructions before deadline.  Failure to do so will have your open trip registration removed so other interested participants can sign up. This also allows us to know the committed group size and if the open trip can proceed. Initial payment required is 50% of the trip price. Full refund of this deposit payment will be given if the open trip did not meet the minimum group size. Balance payment is required one month before trip departure date.  We will regularly update the status of the trip on this page.

3) As this is an open trip, itinerary is fixed. In case you prefer to customise your itinerary, we recommend that you book a private tour with us.  This open trip is mainly targeted to small groups of 1 – 2 pax to reduce their cost of traveling.
