ITINERARY
Day 01
SINGAPORE – SURABAYA – CEMORO LAWANG
Fly direct from Singapore Changi Airport to Juanda International Airport. Upon arrival you will be picked up by our local representative to your accommodation in Cemoro Lawang (approx. 4-5 hrs drive). Along the way, you will visit the 200m high cascading Madakaripura Waterfalls – the second highest in Indonesia.
*To reach Madakaripura Waterfall, you will first need to pillion on an ojek (motorbike taxi operated by local villagers). The ride covers about 3–4 km and takes roughly 15 minutes one way. Please note that as the motorbike service is operated by local villagers, standard safety equipment such as helmets may not always be provided. After the motorbike ride, a 1.5–2 km hike of about 30 minutes leads you to the waterfall. The trail is slippery and wet. You may need to walk through shallow streams. Expect to get wet – covered shoes (like wet shoes or trekking shoes) are highly recommended. The visit to Madakaripura Waterfall is optional. If you feel this is too adventurous for your preference, the visit can be skipped entirely.
*Waterfall visit will be postponed to the next day (after Mount Bromo) for late arrival in Surabaya.
Overnight: Hotel/Resort in Cemoro Lawang
Day 02
CEMORO LAWANG – MOUNT BROMO – SURABAYA
You will be given an early morning wake up call at around 3 am to prepare for Mount Bromo sunrise hike. An exciting ride on the 4WD will bring you to the neighbouring peak of Gunung Penanjakan (2770m) at the edge of the Tengger crater rim to witness the beautiful sunrise views over the Bromo landscape. Rising from the flat volcanic sand bed of the caldera is the dormant core of Mount Batok (2440m) and the active volcano of Mount Bromo (2329m). Further south beyond the crater wall lies mighty Gunung Semeru (3676m) – the highest and most active volcano in Java. After enjoying the sunrise, you will then continue the exciting ride on the 4WD over the Laotian Pasir (Sand Sea) to Poten – a Tenggerese Hindu temple beside Mount Bromo. From Poten, you can choose to take a 3km hike or a pony ride to get to the base of Mount Bromo, where you will be rewarded with the close- up views of the crater rim after ascending a steep flight of 253 steps. Thereafter you will return to your hotel in Cemoro Lawang for shower and lunch before transferring back to Surabaya.
