ITINERARY

Day 01

SINGAPORE – CHAOSHAN – CHAOZHOU 

Upon arrival at Chaoshan Jieyang International Airport, you will be greeted by your guide and transferred to Chaozhou for hotel check-in (approx. 20 minutes drive). In the late afternoon, begin your introduction to the Teochew cultural capital with a leisurely stroll along Archway Street, the most vibrant street in the historic old town. Lined with traditional stone archways, teahouses, and local snack stalls, it is the perfect place to experience the lively atmosphere of Chaozhou. Continue your walk towards the scenic riverbank for views of the iconic Guangji Bridge, one of China’s oldest pontoon bridges. During spring, blooming kapok trees add a beautiful touch to the riverside landscape. You may also explore the nearby Chaozhou Ancient City Wall, offering elevated views over the historic town. Dinner is on your own, with the opportunity to try the famous Chaoshan beef hotpot, renowned for its light yet incredibly fresh flavors.

Day 02

CHAOZHOU ANCIENT CITY CULTUTAL WALK

Today enjoy a cultural exploration of Chaozhou Ancient City, where many historical landmarks are located within walking distance. (Note: vehicles are not allowed inside the ancient town, but electric carts are available if required.) Start with a visit to Hanwengong Memorial Temple, perched on a hill overlooking the Han River. The temple offers panoramic views of the ancient town and surrounding landscape. Continue to the majestic Kaiyuan Temple, one of the oldest temples in Guangdong Province, famous for its intricate Teochew ceramic roof carvings and red walls adorned with traditional lanterns. Return to Archway Street for a deeper culinary adventure. Explore the lively food lanes and sample local specialties such as braised goose, almond tea, sesame paste, fermented tofu chicken wings, and other classic Teochew snacks. In the afternoon, experience the local tea culture at Zaiyang Teahouse, where you can relax with a traditional Gongfu tea session while enjoying live Chaozhou opera and traditional music performances. Next, visit the beautifully decorated Ji Lue Huang Ancestral Hall, known for its intricate wood carvings depicting Chinese mythological stories. End the day at Xu’s Son-in-Law Mansion, a well-preserved traditional Teochew residence that offers insight into the lifestyle and architecture of historic Teochew families.

Day 03

CHAOZHOU – SHANTOU

After breakfast, depart for Shantou by private vehicle (approx.1 hour drive). En route, visit the impressive Chen Cihong Former Residence, a grand overseas Chinese mansion blending Chinese and Southeast Asian architectural styles, reminiscent of classic Nanyang heritage homes. Upon arrival in Shantou, explore the historic Shantou Small Park, the cultural heart of the city. This charming district features arcaded streets and unique Chinese-Western architecture dating back to Shantou’s treaty port era. Landmarks here include the iconic Zhongshan Pavilion. Nearby, enjoy free time at Zhenbang Road Food Street, famous for its wide variety of Teochew heritage snacks such as licorice fruit, beef rice noodles, braised dishes, and marinated seafood.

Day 04

NAN’AO ISLAND DAY EXCURSION

After breakfast, depart for a scenic excursion to Nan’ao Island (approx. 1 hour drive). Nan’ao Island is known for its coastal scenery, charming fishing villages, and panoramic ocean views. Travel around the island by private vehicle, stopping at several picturesque locations including: Nan’ao Lighthouse – an iconic photo spot overlooking the sea; Qianjiang Bay Beach – a relaxing seaside beach with sweeping coastal views; Rainbow Sea – a colorful coastal viewpoint popular for photography Return to Shantou in the late afternoon. In the evening, explore Longyan South Road Food Street, one of the city’s most popular night food streets. Sample local delicacies such as crispy taro, wampee juice, Teochew congee, and traditional crystal rice cakes known locally as “kueh”.

Day 05

SHANTOU – SINGAPORE

After breakfast, transfer to Chaoshan Jieyang International Airport (approx. 1 hour drive) for your onward flight. Bid farewell to the Chaoshan region, taking with your wonderful memories of Teochew culture, heritage architecture, and unique culinary traditions.
